So excited!
I've been working on my entry for the 2017 Sketchbook Project off and on over the past few months. Grad school, work and emotions have been getting in the way, but I made some good progress on my sketchbook today that I'm happy about.
I made two self portraits; one of a bad day, one of a good day. Here they are as a spread. They don't particularly look like me, and it's been a while since I've done portraits, but I've always enjoyed painting them and I'm still pretty happy with what I did.
What a fun way to spend a few hours today!

Sketckbook Project contribution mailed off!
My little sketchbook should be touring the states in a few months. So excited! It will be digitized by the Sketchbook Project people as well. I will post the link here when that happens, so you can check out other sketchbooks too. Wicked stoked. Happy Monday people.

Sketchbook Project coming to completion.
The deadline for mailing in my contribution to the Sketchbook Project is fast approaching. And I do best with deadlines. So as you would guess, I've been killing it. The book itself looks great, I've covered up a few pages but the end result of all the spreads I am very happy with so far. Got one left to go, and the cover...I have no idea what to do with the cover. I will be shipping out my little sketchbook this coming Saturday. I think at least the heart one I've posted before, but now you can get an idea of its surroundings. Here is a preview.
On another note, both potentials from last month have gone by the wayside. Sadly, Planet Marshmallow closed at the end of the year. And I will not be taking the Chalk Hill residency - the two weeks they allotted me encompassed Thanksgiving-time, and I am not selfish enough to use up a holiday purely for me. But I accomplished what I sought out to do - I was accepted. Hazaah! Next: find opportunities a bit more local.

Sketchbook Project Progress
The sketchbook project is coming along well! I am hoping to make this sketch into an encaustic piece some time this summer. Tried it in acrylic, but it wasn't quite the right feel.

The Sketchbook Project
I am participating in a fun art collaborative called the Sketchbook Project. The premise is you are provided a sketchbook, which you fill and mail back. At that point your sketchbook is part of their traveling library, and you can also choose to have it digitized on their website. Pretty sweet. Here's the blurb from their site:
"It's like a road trip, but with sketchbooks.
Every book created for the project will embark on a
cross-country road trip to visit state fairs, festivals
and as many
Waffle Houses as your book's little stomach
can handle."
I've been attacking it pretty readily. You folks get a preview of some of the pages as they're completed. And who knows, it may travel to somewhere close to you next year!
